Day 48 – Pad Thai and Spring Rolls Make Up for Non-Vegan Wine

- Vegan Pad Thai! Custom order.
Our night on the town began with free flowing wine at a Barefoot Wine and Surfrider Foundation VIP party on South Beach. Barefoot has always been one of my favorite every day wines, and as a board member of the local Surfrider chapter, we have always had a good relationship with them. As the night progressed and more wine was poured, it never dawned on me to double check their vegan status. They are defenders of the ocean and environment, one of our closest corporate allies; they would would be vegan-friendly, wouldn’t they? On the contrary. After a review of Barnivore.com I was incredibly disappointed to learn the sad truth. Not only were they were not vegan, but I had swam in a pool of the stuff all night. Yet another in a long list of learning opportunities along my path, though this could have been prevented if I had taken the time to research ahead of time.
After a couple hours of non-vegan wine, I felt the familiar urge to gorge myself on late night fare at some greasy joint. Luckily, I was with a healthy, veggie-friendly crew, who would ultimately lead me down the path to redemption and safety–Thai Cuisine.
The restaurant was more than happy to cater to my vegan ways, though I can’t be sure they cooked it in anything not tainted by meat and dairy products. Sometimes you have to choose your battles. This was not the time for me to be taking a stand– slightly tipsy and incredibly hungry after watching people devour meatballs on a stick and a selection of cheese that would make the staunchest vegan’s mouth water.
