Day 2 of Raw Vegan and I am already feeling the dreads of moving to yet another diet style. I awoke to a banana and almond milk, which was tasty but hardly a meal to start your day with. I had an interview to shoot at 10am with the Edgy Veggie herself, Ellen Kanner. She was delightful, the interview went fantastic and all was right in the world of Meatless The Movie. Well, until she offered me coffee. I couldn’t resist. I was waning on energy and still tired from my B12 deficiency (more about that in a later post). She didn’t twist my arm, but I am at a point where buckling under the least amount of pressure is easy.
The coffee was like reuniting with an old friend, even if it had only been a couple days. Continuing with my “transition” into raw, Ellen cooked up a wonderful Indian meal, half raw and half cooked. Everything was fantastic! From the homemade mint chutney to the spinach and citrus salad topped with pistachios and more, my taste-buds were dancing their way across my mouth. Then the grand finale… raw brownies. You don’t have to be a raw foodist to love these, but if you asked Ellen, she would say it helps. I, for one, will be enjoying the rest of these little bars of chocolaty goodness tonight after dinner.
My hat’s off to Ellen Kanner. A fantastic chef, writer and crusader for the meatless cause. And a class act.
